(Sweden) — According to a report from the Gaming Intelligence Group, Sweden's Supreme Court has ordered that the Court of Appeal must hear cases involving two of the country's dailies, Expressen and Aftonbladet in regards to online gambling advertisements.
In mid January, the former and current editor-in-chiefs of Aftonbladet sent a letter to EU Commissioner Charlie McCreevy asking for help from the constant attacks from the state gambling monopoly that hindered the newspaper's ability to accept ads from EU-based online gambling companies.
The GIG report goes on to say that various rulings from the European Court of Justice casts a shadow of doubt over Sweden's state lottery laws:
". . . the Lottery Law, which bans advertising by foreign gambling companies, is incompatible with Articles 12, 43 and 49 of the EC treaty," the report went on to say.
