XP Update Interferes with Casino Play
by Mika Takahashi, WINNERonline.com
11 February 2003

Some Windows XP users find they are no longer able to play no-download Java casino games. The problem only affects users who have downloaded Service Pack 1A, released last week.

Two online casinos, Lasseters and InterCasino, alerted their users to the problem and suggested remedies.

The casinos recommend not running the update, if you use Windows XP as your operating system and wish to continue playing their Java games.

If you have already run the update, you will need to install Java software. The software is available at http://java.sun.com/getjava/. Installation instructions are available at http://java.sun.com/getjava/install-windows.html.

Technical support staff at the casinos are available to provide assistance.

The root of the problem is a dispute between Microsoft and Sun Microsystems. You can read more about it here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/evaluation/news/jre.asp
