Jimmy L Vance was a frequent customer at the Caesars Casino in Indiana back in 2004 and was well known to the casino staff. On one particular night, Jimmy had a little too much to drink and the next day found himself in debt of $75,000 to the casino. Looking back on the night, Jimmy could only remember borrowing $20,000 and never the other $55,000. He is now in court trying to wipe out his debt with the casino claiming the casino took advantage of his intoxicated state and lent him more money.
Vance’s attorney has stated that his client was in no condition to borrow money and had at least seven drinks in 160 minutes. The casino however has stood on the fact that it never committed any illegal act and that Vance should be held responsible for his own actions. Under Indiana law, casinos can charge interest and collect up to three times the original debt, so the casino is hoping that Indiana law holds up to their part of the story.
