(Newton, MA and Seattle, WA) — WorldWinner and PopCap Games, Inc. today announced that the companies have entered an agreement which calls for WorldWinner to be the exclusive provider of cash competitions on PopCap.com within North America.
WorldWinner is a subsidiary of FUN Technologies Inc. (TSX: FUN)(AIM: FUN) and a leading provider of online game competitions for cash and prizes. PopCap Games is the leading developer and publisher of casual games.
WorldWinner has developed a co-branded site, available via the "Cash" tab on PopCap.com. WorldWinner's cash competition versions of PopCap titles such as Bejeweled® 2, Zuma(TM) and Bookworm(TM), as well as a portfolio of more than 25 other popular games, are now available via the new co-branded area of PopCap's Website within North America.
These cash tournaments offer customers an enjoyable combination of the instant fun for which PopCap games are known and a competitive atmosphere created by WorldWinner's innovative site experience.
PopCap fans can now join the network of millions of players competing on the WorldWinner platform, including those from WorldWinner's largest partner sites, such as AOL Games, GSN, MSN Games and Pogo.com.
This agreement also extends a licensing partnership in which WorldWinner has developed and hosts cash versions of several popular PopCap titles, including Bejeweled 2, Big Money(TM), Bookworm, Chuzzle(TM), Dynomite!(TM) and Zuma.
Under the terms of the expanded agreement, WorldWinner will develop and host cash competition versions of one or more additional PopCap titles slated for commercial release in 2008.
"Our cash competition versions of PopCap's casual games, including Bejeweled 2, Chuzzle, Dynomite! and Big Money, consistently rank among the most popular with WorldWinner players," said Peter Blacklow, president of WorldWinner.
"By further developing our relationship with PopCap, we are able to expand our list of popular game titles and deliver new ways for PopCap and WorldWinner players to enjoy their favorite games for cash and prizes."
"By incorporating a different aspect of competition, WorldWinner creates additional excitement and community elements that appeal to many players of our casual games," said John Vechey, PopCap co-founder and director of online operations.
"PopCap customers who have become experts playing the online or downloadable versions of our games can now prove their skills by competing against thousands of players around the world for cash and prizes, as well as bragging rights."
