With all the bowl slots filled, the easiest way to handicap bowl games is to simply look at which teams are hot and which are not.

It’s hard to believe there’s any hotter team in college football than Oklahoma as the regular season came to a close.

Beating Missouri wasn’t a shock. The Tigers might have been the No. 1 team in the country, but there was a reason odds makers made OU a favorite.

Beating Missouri 38-17 to win the Big 12 title in San Antonio was, though. The reason for the lopsided score was the way the Sooners played in the second half.

It was the best 30 minutes they’ve put together all season. Scoring 24 points against a good defense and holding a team like Missouri to just a field goal in crunch time was impressive to say the least.

Adjustments were the key. OU picked up two first-half touchdown runs by Chris Brown, but struggled to run the ball early.

There was even a bad omen with Missouri scoring a touchdown and getting a two-point conversion to tie the game at 14-14 at halftime.

OU scored on four of its six possessions after the intermission, included in the bunch were three straight touchdowns to put the game away.

“We did a good job at halftime with subtle adjustments,” offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson said. “The first half we were both kind of jockeying and getting a feel for what blitzes and looks we were getting and what formations.”

Once OU figured it all out, the game was basically over.
