Daring Punt By PokerStars
8th January 2010

Online poker giant, PokerStars, has just announced at their annual Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure that they will be launching a North American branded poker tour, named the North American Poker Tour. Although this comes as no surprise as the PokerStars has already progressively launched many successful regional related tours in the Asia Pacific Poker Tour, Latin American Poker Tour, European Poker Tour, United Kingdom Poker Tour, Australian New Zealand Poker Tour, etc, the North American Poker Tour, is highly delayed and is a calculated gamble by the company.

With Daniel Negreanu fronting the cameras to give his thumbs up and personal guarantee that he will be participating, behind the scenes of it all it is still a battle front against the government PokerStars is set to fire at. With the UIGEA still in force, PokerStars holding live poker tournaments in the US where many of the entrants will be US online qualifiers does not sit well with the UIGEA ruling. A few of the money transfer options that PokerStars uses for it’s players are under investigation and a few dodging government regulators. However, for this venture, it looks as if PokerStars is well aware that the prize will far outweigh the cost.
