Danish Court Takes Poker Earnings 11th September 2009
An unemployed man has had to forfeit $28,000 in online poker earnings to Denmark's supreme court. The court has ruled the man violated the country's laws against professional gambling. The nation has strict laws on whether poker winnings can be used as a sole source of income and has used this ruling against the professional poker player.
During the proceedings, the supreme court noted that online poker games are subject to Danish Law since the computers that are used to play the games are located inside Denmark and have promised to review any further professional poker players case by case.
Denmark is the home of 2008 World Series of Poker champion Peter Eastgate. After making the final table, Eastgate changed his residency to London.
