A recent press conference featuring Greg Hawkins of the City of Dreams has revealed that the Cotai resorts will look to create 15,000 to 17,000 jobs and will close to double in size. The region expects more retail shops and more nightclubs to make the area world class in gambling, shopping and entertainment. The latest addition to the area is the Hard Rock Poker Lounge which is a bar integrated with poker lounge and entertainment, a much newer and interesting concept than the poker rooms of Lisboa and Wynn casinos.
The new jobs created by the continual expansion of the Cotai area will mean that the 10,000 residents of Macau who are unemployed will have much more job opportunities. Part of the challenge in finding the labour are the new laws on imported labour designed to protect the local labour market. A new railway system is expected to transport around 400,000 people a day from Guangzhuo to Macau, which is expected to be completed in November 2010.
