The Bally’s Atlantic City casino and the Showboat Casino Hotel have been slapped $18,000 and $10,000 penalty’s respectively for facilitating table games with missing cards from a full deck. With Bally’s Atlantic City casino, it was missing a seven of diamonds in a game of blackjack for eight hours before casino staff realised that they were dealing a card short. A special red light on the card shuffling machine had been lit to signal that it was not a full deck, but staff ignored the light and continued dealing.
At the Showboat casino, a three of hearts was stuck in a shuffling machine at a poker table with the dealer continuing to deal for about four hours before it was detected. Both casinos have paid the fines without contesting the decisions and have taken preventative steps to ensure this problem is not repeated.
