A man named Marli Moncrieff has been arrested and refused bail by Perth police for allegedly trying to sell a gun on the gaming floor of the Burswood Casino in Perth, Western Australia. Moncrieff had been watched by casino security staff at 3:30am on Saturday and was eventually arrested. On searching his hotel room, police found a handgun and a small quantity of ecstasy tablets. Moncrieff will appear in East Perth Magistrate’s Court with the crime of possession of a firearm and a possession of a prohibited drug with intent to sell or supply.
Moncrieff’s lawyers have applied for bail but have been refused over what the judge feels is a very serious charge and also with the fact that the accused was on a suspended prison order already. Moncrieff’s lawyer has argued that his client’s gun was not loaded, would not harm any casino patrons and that the ecstacy tablets were not a trafficking amount.
