The first anybody heard of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act back in 2006, it was still a largely unexplained bill that many politicians backed due to party politics and not knowing the full extent of the what the bill would actually do. It was truly a bill that the designers of the bill just tried to pass under the radar. But that was 2006, well before the global financial crisis and well before anybody realised that the US government stood to lose millions in legal tax earnings with the bill in place.
Lately, one politician who is out to voice his view of the bill is Earl Blumenauer. Blumenauer previously backed the bill in 2006 but is now taking a step on the otherside and has announced that the bill is a clear mistake and should be over turned. He has come out with a public statement stating that the US is losing billions of dollars with this bill and could use the missing internet gambling tax funds to create employment and control its deficits.
