Bermuda’s lawmakers have voted again on the decision to legalise gambling, and once again it has been voted down by the lawmakers of the country. The main champion of the idea, Dr Ewart Brown, the premier of the country is still adamant that the country can still eventually legally provide gambling in order to improve tourism and government revenue. Other lawmakers who voted against the project were clear to point out that they were not completely against the idea but felt that the funds were better used to solve other social problems like minimising crime.
Dr Brown still feels that there can be further debate on this topic since Bermuda clearly needs the funds to actually help the locals and prevent crime for further escalation. Other points of debate include whether local residents have access to the casinos or whether they have passes that limit the number of times they are allowed to play at the casino. Currently, many cruise ships that are docking at Bermuda have to keep their casinos closed since the country does not permit them to be legally open.
