Banks Help Chinese Crackdown
11th of June 2010

Chinese authorities have moved swiftly to enforce it’s rules of internet gambling being illegal and have made over 3400 arrests related to illegal online gambling. It had vowed at the start of the year that all online gambling operators and any public that used them would be arrested. Estimates of up to $10 Billion Yuan are gambled on offshore internet websites a year, so it is in the best interest of the Chinese government to plug the leak as fast as it can.

By using different party departments, government ministries and financial institutions, the Chinese are clamping down hard and have seized over $88 million dollars, removed websites with gambling information. Aiding their investigations were information supplied by the People’s Bank of China and the China Banking Regulatory Commission to help target problem areas.
