Australia’s Federal Government economic advisory body, the Productivity Commission, has released a draft report of it’s year long investigation into the country’s gambling. It’s aim is to reduce the nation’s $18 billion a year gambling addiction and has made several possibly recommendations that might see changes to government legislation as early as early 2010.
Clearly pointing it’s finger at the nation’s slot machine addiction, Australia is looking to reduce the betting limit on slot machines to a maximum of $1 per spin. This artificially caps the possible loss for a slot machine player from $1200 per hour to a maximum of $120 per hour. A cap of a maximum deposit of $20 is also recommended to help slow down the problem gamblers. Other gambling recommendations on the radar of the report includes regulating online gambling for Australian citizens and also an overhaul for horse racing.
