NFL Games To Keep An Eye On
by Karl Yu, Winneronline
16 August, 2006

SPORTS

The NFL regular season is getting ready to kickoff and football fans are licking their chops at the prospect of betting on and watching another season of pigskin.

Although I don’t have a crystal ball and can’t see into the future, here are some games that initially look interesting from a betting and football enjoyment perspective.

Week 1

Ah Week 1! The slate is clean and every team is still hopeful that they will make the playoffs.

Thursday, September 7, 2006: Miami Dolphins at Pittsburgh Steelers

It will be interesting to see how Ben Roethlisberger will play months after a motorcycle accident. Will the distractions from the Superbowl banner raising enable the Dolphins to steal a win at Heinz?

Sunday, September 10, 2006: Cincinnati Bengals at Kansas City Chiefs

Carson Palmer’s spectacular 2005 season ended off on a horrible note when he suffered a major knee injury in the playoffs against Pittsburgh. It’ll be interesting to see how he plays after offseason surgery.

Sunday, September 10, 2006: Indianapolis Colts at N.Y. Giants

Peyton Manning vs. Eli Manning. ‘Nuff said.

Week 3

Monday, September 25, 2006: Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints

In the first game back in the Superdome—hopefully—since the hurricane, Brees, Bush and company should be pumped up with the home crowd likely to be in a state of pandemonium. Add to the fact that Michael Vick is in town and you have the potential makings of a good game.

Week 5

Sunday, October 8, 2006: Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles

If Philly fans booed Santa Claus and cheered when former Dallas star WR Michael Irvin lay motionless after a hard hit, one can only imagine the sorts of things they will do to former favorite Eagle WR Terrell Owens.

Week 6

Sunday, October 15, 2006: Oakland Raiders at Denver Broncos

You come to expect a good game between these two AFC Left division rivals and this game should be no different. These two hate each other and it shows.

Week 10

Sunday, November 12, 2006: St. Louis Rams at Seattle Seahawks

This game might be months away, but given that the Rams have a new offensive minded coach that doesn’t make stupid decisions—at least not yet—and could be battling it out with the Seahawks for the NFC West title, there is a good chance that Roger Goodell and the NFL could move this tilt onto the prime time sked.

Week 12

Thursday, November 23, 2006: Denver Broncos at Kansas City Chiefs

AFC West rivals + turkey and stuffing = A good way to spend American Thanksgiving.

Week 16

Monday, December 25, 2006: New York Jets at Miami Dolphins

Will the Dolphins and Jets give everybody a Christmas present by playing another classic game on Monday night?

Week 17

The final week of the season and teams will be trying to stamp their tickets to the postseason.

Sunday, December 31, 2006: Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears

A battle for the NFC Norris crown, Brett Favre’s last game or both? Either way this should be a good matchup.
