Much has been managed and invested of the funds that the once iconic buses that brought the gamblers to Atlantic City. Ever since the 1980s when casinos first opened their doors in the state, buses have been forever transporting the keenest of gamblers and slots players to the casinos, with the casinos showering them with gifts to ensure the patrons continue coming back. In the last two years, this figure has changed with Atlantic City losing as much as 70% of their bus patrons since the opening of Pennsylvania Slots parlours and casinos.
The change in strategy now, by the casino operators, is to focus on the drive in customers and ensure they maximise their spending and contributions. Many gamblers like to drive to Atlantic City and stay overnight. Drive in customers have much more disposable funds and are looking for much more treatment than just meal discounts. Atlantic City casinos are not the only ones to suffer with the change, the bus companies that ran the routes to the casino have also seen a significant drop in bus passengers.
