Barney Frank’s IGREA Gets 48th Supporter
10 April, 2008

NEWS

SOURCE: iGaming Business

In America, the proposed Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act (IGREA) has taken another step to becoming reality by receiving its 48th co-sponsor.

Jerrold Nadler, the Representative for the eight district of New York, has announced his support for IGREA, which would regulate online gambling in the United States and banish the current Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA).

Nadler’s district includes parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn and he signalled his support following Congressional hearings into UIGEA where financial experts, politicians, regulatory drafters and pressure groups denounced the current anti-online gambling legislation as impractical and impossible to enforce.

Democrat Nadler is highly respected in the House of Representatives and is a member of the House Judiciary Committee, the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and serves as Chairman of the influential Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties Subcommittee that oversees issues relating to freedom of expression and religion, personal privacy and the correct observance by the Government of due process.

He also serves on the Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security Subcommittee.
