Bettors leaning to Left for Masters
5 April, 2006

SPORTS

With the Masters set to tee off at Augusta National this weekend, there are more than just golfers going for green.

Currently, and to nobody’s surprise Tiger is listed at +325 to take the green blazer, Woods is defending champion after all. But Vegas books are seeing more and more people laying money on a different golfer.

Phil Mickelson is hot after winning the BellSouth Classic last week and as Hilton golf oddsmaker Jeff Sherman told the Las Vegas Review-Journal, “Lefty” is seeing a lot of the action.

“[Mickelson is] always one of the most popular golfers,” Sherman said. “Tiger hasn't shown any dominant form like we came to know. That makes the tournament more competitive.”

Mickelson is getting descent odds to take the Masters and if you take a look at various sportsbooks an interesting variety of Lefty related odds and props are available.

Pinnaclesports.com has Mickelson listed at +630 to win the tournament, +110 to shoot under 71 ½ strokes, -135 to beat Ernie Els in the first round and -113 to finish in the Top 5. They are also offering a prop bet that lists Lefty at -300 to have a double bogey or worse.

BoDog.com is offering a Head to Head bet between Tiger Woods and Mickelson for the duration of the tournament. Mickelson is listed at +125, Tiger at -155.

William Hill has Lefty listed at +550 to take the green blazer and a first round 3 balls bet with Ernie Els listed at -130, Phil Mickelson listed at +100 and Shingo Katayama at +500.

Sportsbook.com has him listed at +600 to win it all and -130 to shoot over 71 ½ after the first round.

The Masters starts on April 6 and lasts ‘til April 9 when Mickelson, Woods or whoever wins the tournament is awarded the green blazer.
