Las Vegas Sands casinos have released a statement indicating that they expect the Cotai Strip casinos to be completed in five years time. The project of building five casinos on the Cotai Strip had previously been stalled after a lack of funds from the global financial crisis meant that buildings would sit idle along the strip whilst the company scrambled to produce the expansion funds. The funds have now been raised by listing on the Hong Kong stock market in the form of $2.5 billion.
Analysts feel that five years to complete the project is actually rather optimistic and forecasts that Sands might even run out of funds in between building. Apart from just funds, government approvals stand in the way of smooth sailing, so with so many hurdles to jump through, it still remains to be seen whether the completion date of June 2011 will be revised.
