There is a strong rumour vibrating around Vegas that the World Series of Poker is set to move out of it’s current home of the Rio into another Las Vegas location. Although there is continual success with holding the tournament at the Rio with many players flying in from all over the world to participate, the word in the market place is that Harrah’s the owner of both the Rio and the WSOP are going to sell the Rio and it’s convention centre. The possible buyers include Starwood Capital Group LLC and Colony Capital LLC valuing the RIO at around the $500 million mrk.
With 2009 being the year of acquisitions for Harrah’s, there are now several locations that could facilitate the 8000 player tournament. Planet Hollywood on Vegas is one possibility, with Caesar’s being the other possible location. Harrah’s also owns the Flemingo, Imperial Palace, Paris and Bill’s casinos. The original WSOP casino was the Horeshoe casino before Harrah’s moved the tournament to the Rio in 2005 to allow it to grow and since it had more car space than the Horseshoe.
