Leading worldwide slots machines producer International Game Technology (IGT) has announced that it is closing up their Reno based cabinet warehouse within the next two months. All of the 25 employees in the warehouse will be laid off and were already notified of the impending decision. The layoffs are part of IGT’s strategy to reduce overhead costs by outsourcing the warehouse’s sheet metal work, wood work and lamination to improve the bottom line.
The new outsourcing means that other Reno businesses will be able to pick up the elusive contract that is now on offer. With the new layoffs, IGT is expecting growth this year and is hiring 27 new employees in other departments like IT and support. IGT produced a 20% increase in profit in the first fiscal 2010 quarter, mainly due to aggressive cost cutting intiatives.
