Delay in UIGEA Bill
30 June, 2009

Online Casinos in the US must now wait longer for a decision to be made on amending the UIGEA. The economic crisis that is currently shaking the world and the US is now the top priority for congress, with Barney Frank having to focus his attentions on this issue. Barney Frank introduced the legislation that would put an end to the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, but also happens to be the head of the US House Financial Services Committee.

With the legislation delayed in congress, it looks like September will be the earliest before the issue is revisited in parliament. Such a decision has big ramifications for online casinos that were awaiting the news to move back to the US market once the laws had been amended.

A lot of progress has been made to legalise online gambling. There are now 35 co-sponsors for the new bill, with sponsors coming from both sides of the floor. Legalised gambling is gathering momentum with many once voting for UIGEA now believing that gambling should be legalised in the US.
