"We filled the theatre with thousands of people to watch a live poker event, which would seem boring, but everyone showed up and I think it worked great because ratings were up 50 percent over last year."
As for this year's event some new rules and regulations have been added.
Outbursts, taunts and trash talk—hello Phil Hellmuth—will not be tolerated and according to the Las Vegas Gaming Wire's Howard Stutz, "World Series of Poker officials want to do a better job tabulating infractions by players and improve enforcement. Players could be assessed penalties ranging from warnings to one-hand or one-round suspensions."
Short Messaging Service Twitter is popular amongst many poker players, including Doyle Brunson, and while the World Series of Poker will "Tweet" updates, players will be forbidden from doing the same.
The action kicks off on Wednesday.
