Sometimes known to offer controversial bet offerings—including ones concerning the death of certain political officials—Irish book Paddy Power has once again pulled a wager due to public outrage.
Paddy's Spanish site was apparently offering bull fighting proposition bets, including the number of ears cut off slaughtered bulls, and that raised the ire of animal rights groups including the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
"Bulls suffer slow and agonizing deaths in bullrings," said PETA in a release.
"They are often given laxatives and are beaten in the kidneys in order to debilitate them before they enter the ring, where they are tormented and stabbed to death in front of screaming crowds."
Paddy Power took this into consideration and removed the bets from the board.
""[W]e have ceased accepting bets on bullfighting and it is not our intention to offer this market again," Paddy's secretary David Johnson promised in an e-mail to PETA.
