POKER
Well, we're supposed to be impartial observers here at WinnerOnline but we must confess, we were cheering for Annie Duke throughout this season's Celebrity Apprentice.
We weren't impressed with the actions of either Joan or Melissa Rivers as we thought mother was offside comparing Duke to Hitler—we aren't aware that Howard Lederer's sister was responsible for committing genocide—and we thought the younger Rivers acted like a prima donna throughout the reality series, not just when she was fired, refusing to take criticism from executives and complaining when she didn't get her way.
Still, when all was said and done, Joan Rivers was named this year's Celebrity Apprentice.
The two were tasked with putting on a charity auction event, making sure to properly brand Kodak's digital picture frames into the event and as well, sell tickets to the latest production of Cirque du Soleil, entitled Wintuk.
Six celebrities who were previously made a return to lend a hand and through a draft process, Duke ended up with good friend Brande Roderick, Tom Green and the now-sober Dennis Rodman while Rivers had Herschel Walker, Clint Black and daughter Melissa on her team.
The two faced a lot of adversity putting on the VIP event. Rivers butted heads with her event planner and wasn't getting a lot of help from Clint Black and Duke was collateral damage after the event planning company withdrew its services from the entire Celebrity Apprentice finale because of the conflict from Rivers.
Both persevered, with Duke putting on a relatively classier event for her charity, Refugees International, featuring celebrities such as Phil Hellmuth, brother Howard Lederer and Andy Bloch while Rivers went for family fun with celebrity impersonators.
The executives from Kodak enjoyed Duke's event saying the incorporation of her charity into the digital pic frames and the amount of money she raised in excess of $460,000.
However, they also thought that Rivers covered more of the criteria that they were looking for—overall experience, celebrities in attendance, frame integration, which featured some excellent photography from her daughter and Walker, and overall experience.
Thanks to that, Rivers is this year's Celebrity Apprentice and her charity, God's Love We Deliver, won $250,000, $500,000 in all.
Duke's Refugees International didn't make to badly either taking in $700,000 throughout the series.
Based on her seemingly limitless energy level and the fact that she won the final task, Rivers was the right choice but not everyone was happy with the choice.
The Godfather of Poker, Doyle Brunson, was incensed at comments Rivers made towards poker players and has taken numerous shots at the eventual winner.
Following Rivers' win, Brunson expressed his displeasure.
"How Annie kept from belting Joan Rivers is a mystery to me?" Brunson Twittered.
"Sorry Annie, you got screwed big time. Pure robbery!"
Duke for her part was gracious in defeat, thanking her fans and expressing relief that it was all over.
"Glad to be done with @CelebApprentice so I can get back to my work with La Familia," Duke said on Twitter.
