Betting On The NFL During The Offseason
24 April, 2009

SPORTS

If you think about it, you can bet on the NFL in one way or another throughout the year.

Futures betting is available, early betting lines for Week 1 of the league's regular season were recently released and the NFL draft takes place this weekend.

Bet365 has the New England Patriots listed as the odds-on to win this season's Super Bowl at +700.

Sportsbetting.com has Conference Championship futures with the New York Giants the NFC's odds-on at +400 and the Patriots are +180 to take the AFC.

Draft props are front and center right now and going in to Saturday at New York City's Radio City Music Hall, the consensus is that the Detroit Lions are hell-bent on taking Georgia QB Matthew Stafford first-overall—sportsbetting.com has Stafford listed at -2000 to be No. 1.

Texas Tech WR Michael Crabtree was supposed to be a high selection but a broken foot sustained in late-February could scare some teams off.

Bodog has Crabtree listed at +200 to be the seventh pick overall.

Draftniks have been no doubt following the wisdom of ESPN's Mel Kiper and Todd McShay and Bodog is offering a prop on which of the two will have the most selections correct in their final mock drafts—Kiper is listed at -105 and McShay is -135.

The season is over and the next meaningful game doesn't take place until September but there is still plenty of football betting out there.

By the way, speaking of Week 1, sportsbetting.com has the Pittsburgh Steelers listed as 5-point home faves for their Opening Kickoff Thursday game against the Tennessee Titans.
