While all the talk relating to online gambling monopolies and European nations usually centers around arrests, it seems like quite the opposite is happening in Denmark.
According to a report in The Copenhagen Post, Danish gaming monopoly Danske Spil, which is controlled by the state, could be no more.
The European Union has forever been fighting for an open online gambling market, which allows for foreign companies to operate, and the message seems to be getting across in Denmark.
"A 60-year gaming monopoly operated by state-owned Danske Spil is set to be terminated when the government announces its plans for deregulation on Tuesday," reported cphpost.dhk and a lawsuit from the EC arm of the European Union could have factored into the decision as well.
Deregulation would allow foreign companies not only advertise in Denmark but offer its services as well said the report.
The open market wouldn't mean the end of Danske Spil however as it would still operate the lottery and scratch cards according to a Jyllands-Posten report.
Foreign gaming companies would be responsible for duties and obtaining a license in order to operate in Denmark.
