In an age where personal information can be stolen and used for illegal purposes, it comes as no surprise that online gamblers value their security.
Based on research collected by online infrastructure service provider VeriSign, an overwhelming 85 percent of people surveyed said that trust was important when considering whether to interact with a given site and providing information.
"Moreover they stated that brands that did not protect their online identity made them feel "distrustful" (56 percent), "disappointed" (17 percent), "betrayed" (13 percent), and "indifferent," said a release.
Visible signs of security were also important as 62 percent of respondents looked for a lock icon while 55 percent looked for some sort of logo or seal signifying that a site was safe.
"The best security for consumers is education and using the latest tools and technologies that are out there to help counter fraud," explained the Authentication and Online Trust Alliance's founder and chair Craig Spiezle.
"As we move more and more of our lives online for example, banking, shopping, paying bills, communicating, registering,
renewing, possible fraud threats follow closely behind."
"The key is to keep one step ahead by knowing how to protect yourself online, embracing best practices and using the latest technologies."
"You want to make sure that you are choosing your websites for membership based not only on things like payout schedules and progressive jackpots, but also on the details that will ensure you're playing on a secure website, be it slot, poker, or sportsbetting. Players should take into consideration when selecting an online casino the eCOGRA Seal of Approval."
"Playing in online casinos one of the great pleasures of the internet. Wise gamblers play with what they are willing to lose. You'll find a never-ending amount of advice on the subject: from separate accounts, to using a single credit card while gambling. The most important part is knowing where to stop," he went on to say.
