Have Mercy: A Chat With Isabelle Mercier
23 January, 2009

FEATURES

When you look through the roster of Team PokerStars you see some big names; recently signed Jason Alexander, aka George Costanza, Daniel "Kid Poker" Negreanu and possible SI swimsuit model, Vanessa Rousso.

Another member is Canadian Isabelle Mercier.

Born in Victoriaville, Quebec, Mercier not only has poker experience, she also worked at the famous Aviation Club De France and did we mention she has a law degree as well?

We had the chance to talk to her and discussed a number of things, including the origins of her nickname "No Mercy."

WinnerOnline: "Can you tell us how you got into poker?"

Isabelle Mercier: "I started to play when I was really young with my dad and my uncle, so honestly, I've been playing for around 25 years."

WOL: "Your nickname is 'No Mercy,' can you go over how you got that nickname?"

IM: "When I won the WPT Ladies Night in 2004 I was working on a book with Gus Hansen and Paul Magriel, the book never came out but they really brainwashed me for three weeks [laughs]."

"When I sat down in the tournament I destroyed. I was walking over people and I won it and then [poker commentator] Mike Sexton gave me the name 'No Mercy' Mercier."

WOL: "You have a legal background, what are your views on the legal situation in the United States?"

IM: "I think it's sad that [online] poker is not as accepted and legal. It's such a great discipline, such a great sport and I think the government could get taxes out of it and in my opinion it's not at all gambling because I know I'm not a gambler—I would never [bet] $100 on any game in the world so I know it's really a discipline."

WOL: "You currently reside in Monaco, what's that like?"

IM: "It's wonderful, the weather is wonderful, the food, the city, the people, the casino. Now we have poker in Monaco, it's very recent and I'm helping them make poker known—we're going to have tournaments and everything."
