The Australian Football League has announced that it has reviewed its policy regarding its teams and sponsorships with sports betting companies and it will conditionally allow teams to sign such deals.
Gillon McLachlan, the AFL's COO, told its teams that they would be allowed to sign deals with sportsbooks on the condition that the book didn't "provide access to AFL or AFL club intellectual property," as the AFL said and provided that a "product-fee" and information-sharing deal be signed with the league.
The AFL went on to say that deals like this in place with Tabcorp, Betfair, Betezy, Sports Acumen, IAS Bet, Sportingbet and Racing Odds for issues related to ticketing, signage and hospitality.
Some of the provisions introduced were to ensure the integrity of the league.
"No AFL player or club official is allowed to bet or provide confidential information for wagering purposes on any AFL match or event," the AFL said.
Deals will be considered and approved on a case by case basis.
