Customers of betfred.com will notice on the online book's website that a company from Gibraltar will be providing services.
"With effect from 19th January, the services on www.betfred.com will be provided by Petfre (Gibraltar) Limited, licensed in Gibraltar and Regulated by the Gibraltar Regulatory Authority," it says under the "Service Information" box.
The change stems from the recent announcement that Betfred proprietors, Peter and Fred Done, have sold their business—which includes an online sportsbook, casino and bingo operation—to an unnamed buyer. The Done brothers say that the deal was completed in 2008 and they weren't at liberty to reveal the buyers identity, according to bingostreet.com.
Betfred was originally licensed in Netherlands, Antilles but as of today, the operation will be licensed in Gibraltar as mentioned.
Both brothers said the deal made "commercial sense," while Fred Nightingale, Betfred's managing director, told Crain’s Manchester Business that the business had not been performing up to expectations for a few years.
The eGaming Review reports that the sportsbook operation had not been sold.
