UK Whitelisting Increasing Antigua's Profile
24 December, 2008

FEATURES

It's amazing to see what the approval of others can do sometimes.

Up until recently, the islands of Antigua and Barbuda were primarily known as the nations who challenged the United States in regards to online gambling but that has changed now that Whitelist status has been given by the United Kingdom—the so-called Whitelist is a list of jurisdictions which have received approval from the United Kingdom to offer advertising and online gambling services to people in the UK.

"Whitelist approval does more than just give a nation the ability to offer internet gaming services though," said a report in the Antigua Sun.

"It also meant that operators could feel secure in knowing that they were working within a world-class regulatory environment with a 'superb e-services infrastructure.'"

Antigua has been fielding a number of inquiries from companies interested in setting up shop and that can be attributed largely to the certification from the UK, although director of gaming Kaye McDonald said that there was more to it than that.

"Obviously, to have a gaming company operating in Antigua means more than just having the hardware equipment here," McDonald told the Sun.

"Key personnel, key management and key operators are required to be in Antigua and Barbuda; this is of utmost importance."

McDonald also said that interest had increased significantly although she declined to get into specifics.

" . . . budgetary projections, based on what has been logged, have shown an increase of 100 per cent so far," the Antigua Sun went on to say."
