Phuong Quoc Truong, nick named “Pai Gow John” will be sentenced this week for cheating at casinos all over the US. His operation took $7 million from 25 casinos. It's operation was one of the largest cheating scams every to be caught and included a group of at least 40 which included bribed dealers.
Pai Gow John's trick was to record a series of 40 cards which then was not shuffled by the bribed dealer. The unshuffled cards, called a slug, would then be placed back in to the dealing shoe and would then be bet on once the slug was re-dealt. This play worked particularly well for baccarat. The group would be able to successfully steal about $50,000 in 10 minutes of play. Truong pleaded guilty in front of the magistrate in April 2008 of conspiracy and racketeering and has already had to hand over property worth almost $2.8 million.
