Macau has release figures that the number of mainland China visitors has declined. With a total visitor number of 2.4 million in 2008, China travel restrictions has meant that July 2009 only showed 1.7 million visitors.
Visitors from Mainland China itself has shown a 19/2% decrease since last year. Other visitors from around Asia like Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Thailand and Malaysia have also decreased by 12.7%, 0.8%, 10.6%, 23.2% and 29.4% respectively.
These continual bleak figures are continually pointing to a slow down in tourism and is consistent with other tourism figures worldwide rather than a trend of distaste for gambling or Macau falling off the radar itself. All the casino operators still have their bets in for a rise in the market once the global financial crisis is over.
