Macau has recorded a near record month of August with it's revenue set to be a record month. The last one being back in January 2008. The industry is currently forecasting the figure to be at US $1.4 billion.

The casino managers at Macau, although are very happy with the increased revenue, know that unless there is very good explanation for this, the record revenue will likely lead to more problems ahead. The Chinese government is continually monitoring how these Macau casinos earn their revenue, especially in their high roller department. Ever since the opening of the new 'foreign' casinos in Macau, much of the high roller business has been from the Chinese. Special tasks forces have been set up to investigate where the actual cash is coming from in China and to ensure it has no connection with Chinese stimulus packages and fiscal money.
Big Chinese gamers who spend hundreds of millions a night on baccarat are a big cause for both sides of town. So with such a big increase in revenue, what the Macau operators do not want to see is another tightening of visa controls on mainland Chinese entering Macau.
