Jerry Buss, owner of the NBA 2009 Champions took to the field of the WSOP H.O.R.S.E $50,000 World Championship last Friday. After netting the NBA championship, the 75 year old took a break from managing his franchise to tossing in some chips of what has to be a very large bankroll.
Often spotted playing high stakes poker cash games, Jerry Buss also adds three WSOP cashes to his distinguished list of achievements. Loving a challenge in every form, Jerry uses poker to keep himself on his toes and ensures that all his nerves are kept excited both on and off the court.
Jerry started the tournament off seated amongst former WSOP main event champion Huck Seed and poker icon Phil Ivey. A few levels in he was moved to sit amongst Scotty Nguyen and Todd Brunson. He played through to Day 3 of the event and managed to out last Phil Ivy, Doyle Brunson, Daniel Negreanu, Chris Ferguson, Annie Duke and Barry Greenstein, an excellent achievement.
Jerry Buss purchased the LA Lakers back in 1979 along with national hockey team the Los Angels Kings and The Forum for a cool $67.5 million. Having sold the LA Kings later on, the Lakers went on to win nine NBA titles and managed the likes of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant. To have the mind to manage such talent, must be a talent in itself.
